Sakura Kinomoto
Series: Card Captor Sakura
Worn to: Acen 05, Museum Event 05, Sakuracon 07
Difficulty: 3/5
When I was 10, I was a huge fan of Card Captor Sakura and thought Sakura and her outfits were just too adorable! When I first learned about anime conventions, I knew right off the bat that I wanted to cosplay Sakura. I eventually decided on her princess outfit from Volume 6.
My mom made the majority of this costume - I just made the props and accessories. My only contribution was choosing to alter the primary colors of the outfit from orange and green to to coral and yellow, which seemed more suited to Sakura’s fluffy persona.
I made the staff from a wooden dowel, aluminum foil, model magic and paperclay. The star necklace was made from model magic and attached to a thick, green ribbon using chicken wire. The crown is an old candle holder my mom had lying around that I painted gold and modified by bending a few of the wires in different directions.
My friends cosplayed with me as Melin and Syaoran and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in costume. It was our first time cosplaying from a widely recognized series and everyone responded really positively! This costume was a huge confidence booster and my experience gave me tons of inspiration to continue making costumes from then on.
